People who have followed my work, and I hope there are many of freshwater pearl you out there, must know that I use my words to bring tidbits of 'gossip', speculation and an ounce of 'get a grip' advice to those celebrities who appear to be needing a good written slap of reality lashing. Anyhow, all of that is what celebrity pieces are about... What I am hoping/writing and advocating for? That my work for women, children and the elderly leaves you, the public, asking for more insight into the minds of these people whom I consider, 'the underdog.'

Face it, women are often paid less, treated not like one of the boys and nine times out of ten, hit upon in the workplace, and often have to 'prove' themselves before being taken seriously. Children are often treated like they don't have a say in cultured pearl any situation. They are after all, little sheep led by an adult shepherd who have their well being in mind. One can only continue to hope that out there in their world, these children are being protected and not abused as so many of them are... My adage have always been that adults should not lose sight of the fact that "Children are people too."

The Elderly: When I think of the people most ignored in the world, I think of Geriatrics. I have been working in the field of Healthcare for akoya pearl almost 30 years. I have met many, many, people who have left indelible impressions upon my soul. I have been known to take up a bedside vigil with some of these ignored elderly, as they get only seasonal visits from family, who acts as power of attorney and a sprinkling of their aging friends 365 days in a year.

Do not get it twisted; Many, many family members continue to care for their elderly moms/dad/brother/sister; but, just as many, do not have the time to spend as , perhaps, pressures of life continues to intervene. This leaves many who age to pearl earrings become Centurions in Nursing Homes , Rehabilitation Centers and Assisted Living Facilities left with memories that remains surprisingly vivid in their aged minds.

I love a good story. The best storytellers, recorders of history in the world, are the elderly. They want to be heard. They want to be validated in this place of residence where they find themselves housed with others, yet, wanting to believe that somehow, they arenot quite as dependent as that one over there... Mama Pearl was born December 19th, 1908. She turns 99 and laughs as I ask her what she wants for her birthday. "How do you know it is my birthday, she snickers, I did not tell you? She bursts into laughter as she straightens herself in her wheelchair. I remind her that she is a "matriarch" as I have done so often in pearl strand the past. I tell her that we all love her and thinks she's something special. "Me?" "Well, thank you." She smiles into her bosoms, appearing humbled, but, honored.

I have written a lot about the elderly over the years in the form of poetry, essays, short stories. Yet, somehow, it doesn't seem enough. Not when there are so many, many, words of wisdom that have gone unrecorded...It is like losing an aged black and white photo and one day happening upon it again, where it became lost between the cracks of life... People, are you feeling me? Good, now, make the effort this Holiday season to pay some special Geriatric a visit and hey, be prepared to partake in the wisdom of the elderly as legacy foretold.
